Regional Coach
Arthur Johnson
Hi
I joined the Boston branch of BSAC in 1985. Having a love of water all my life, diving seemed an ideal choice as a sport to keep me fit with the involvement of water. It wasn't long before I worked my way through the diving grades of the time starting with the old Novice Diver, how things have changed. I took advantage of the Club Instructor's help and support to gain my grades. As by repayment for their help, I took the first stage towards becoming an Instructor. It wasn't long before I realized there was more to diving than just getting wet! I worked over the years, to what was the highlight for me, to achieve First Class Diver in 2002.
I joined the coaching team in 1994 as an Area Coach within the Lincolnshire area and started to instruct on SDCs. Sometimes it seems you spend a lot of time working on courses but to see the development of other divers makes it all worthwhile.
My first priority is to build the coaching team, using the existing talents and the wealth of knowledge already in place and to develop the team with new talent which I know exists in the area. Secondly, to raise the awareness of the help and support the East Midlands coaching team has to offer to all its Clubs.

Spare time:
Diving - "prefer UK wreck diving which I think is the best in the world. Exploring in poor viz beats the hell out of looking at pretty fish in 50m viz! Prefer using my own 5.2m Rib than any other way."
Coaching - Northamptonshire Area Coach - part of East Midlands Regional team. Enjoy Boat handling courses, Chartwork and all courses with a practical element especially going to sea!
ITS - active member of East & West Midlands team.
Outside of diving - "Spending time with my family especially my Grandson. Holidays to new places, Riding my restored ex-police BMW motorbike, computers, skiing, going to the gym, running, watching Northampton Rugby and I am a Trustee of the local Residents Country Club."
Dislikes - Football, TV, "pretty fish" dives, people who say "someone should do something about it"
